What does New Orleans cut to close a $100 million gap?
Mayor Helena Moreno's proposed 2027 budget closes a gap of nearly $100 million with about $77 million in cuts, including 152 positions, the Health Department down 51% and $5 million less for a homeless shelter. Councilmember Lesli Harris warns up to 200 people could lose shelter; the mayor calls the plan difficult but necessary. The City Council reviews and adopts the budget this fall.
