Stonecrest's 2027 budget: 114 jobs planned, 89 funded

On October 26, Stonecrest's city manager presented the proposed budget for 2027. It plans for 114 city positions and pays for 89 of them. The other 25, about one in five, stay empty unless the council finds more money or spends less somewhere else. Economic Development would have two of its three positions filled.

Stonecrest has more residents than any other city wholly inside DeKalb County, and its Black households earn more than Black households across Georgia or the nation. Yet it taxes property at the lowest city rate in the county, and more than two thirds of its General Fund comes from the state insurance premium tax, franchise fees and business taxes rather than property taxes.

The council holds a public hearing on November 9 and is scheduled to vote on November 23. Below is what the budget says, how Stonecrest compares with its neighbors, and the part the city, its businesses and its residents each play.

About these figures

Every figure on this page shows the year it describes. Public agencies release their numbers on their own schedules, often a year or more after the work of counting is done. The Census Bureau, for example, publishes its five year community survey each December, and the national reading test is given every two years. That is why some figures are not from this year. SourceLine updates each one as soon as the agency publishes it.

For some counties and small towns, SourceLine has not found meeting records online. Where it has not, we add them as they become available. A page that says SourceLine hasn’t updated a record yet means exactly that.
